Ocean Haiku | Joshua St. Claire

panic grass
his head disappearing
beneath the waves

a mourning dove
roosting in a saw palm
Oak Island

sedimentary rock sun sky horizon sea sand

glittering at the tip
of the augur snail
Denebola

why can’t I get it out of my head moon snail

rose hour
the pianissimo
of a flame auger

sotto voce
the wind in the palms
is the wind on the sea

the Atlantic shifts
with the weight of the wind
Zubeneschamali

autodidact
the dunes shaped
by gullsong
