Stranged Writing Release Reading

The Gravity of the Thing celebrates the release of its first anthology, Stranged Writing: A Literary Taxonomy on October 13th. Join us at The Stacks Coffeehouse in Portland, Oregon from 6-7:30pm to hear contributors Joshua James Amberson, Alex Behr, Lucie Bonvalet, Benjamin Kessler, Matt Rebholz, and Eli Ronick read their experimental prose, poetry, and cross-genre works. Stranged Writing is an anthology of defamiliarized creative writing curated according to biological taxonomy (species, genus, family, order, class, phylum, kingdom, and domain) using word count. Our hardcover edition includes a screen-printed dust jacket that transforms into unique literary organisms or book sculptures, the goal being a dimensional and tactile reading experience during these largely digital times.

About the readers:

Joshua James Amberson is the author of the Two Plum Press chapbooks Everyday Mythologies, Slow Motion Heroics, and Writing Exercises (and Various Approaches to Life on Earth). His young-adult novel, How to Forget Almost Everything, is due out this November from Korza Books, and his essay collection, Staring Contest, is forthcoming in 2023 from Perfect Day Publishing.

Alex Behr is the author of Planet Grim (7.13 Books). She is an editor and teaches creative writing residencies in Portland high schools through Literary Arts’ Writers in the Schools Program. Learn more at www.alexbehr.com.

Lucie Bonvalet is a writer, a visual artist and a teacher. Her writing can be found in The Gravity of the Thing, Phantom Drift Limited, Juked, and elsewhere. Originally from the Dordogne in France, she has lived in Portland since 2004.

Benjamin Kessler’s debut collection, Of This World, is available for pre-order now from Game Over Books. He lives with his family in Portland, Oregon.

Matt Rebholz is a fiction writer and MFA student at Portland State University. His work has appeared in 1001 Journal, Moss, and The Gravity of the Thing.

Eli Ronick is a writer, translator, and educator based in Portland. Stranged Writing features his first fiction publication.
